3 additional districts under consideration for listing in the national register

In August 2009 the Raleigh Historic Districts Commission (RHDC) held a community forum to discuss the benefits of nominating Battery Heights, Capitol Heights, Longview Gardens, and Madonna Acres as historic districts to the National Register of Historic Places. The draft nominations have been submitted to the NC State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) for consideration.

Citizens
are invited to comment on National Register nominations for three 1945-65 National Register Historic Districts and one individual property at the September 21st RHDC business meeting (7:30 a.m., Room 305 of the Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett Street). Nominations inlcude Battery Heights, Capitol Heights, Longview Gardens, and the Harwell Hamilton & Jean Bangs Harris House & Office (also under consideration for Raleigh Historic Landmark designation).

On July 26, 2010 a community forum was held to discuss the potential listing of the subdivisions Cameron Village, Hi-Mount, and Rochester Heights. Over the course of the next few months, consultants will research the subdivisions' history and architecture. Please stay tuned for information on additional community forums, at which the consultants will present their findings. If you have information regarding the history of the subdivisions that you would like to share, please email us or call 919.832.7238.
