The Raleigh Historic Districts Commission (RHDC) has been designated the official advisory body to the Raleigh City Council on historic preservation matters.
RHDC serves the public both as a steward for districts and landmarks and as a facilitator to people who own historic properties. It provides assistance to owners and tenants, helps them plan the alterations that they are considering for their properties, and guides owners through the application process necessary to implement these changes. Minor works may be reviewed and approved by staff, while major works require review by the Commission's Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) Committee.
